Do you know what a wishing stone is?
A wishing stone has a single perfectly unbroken stripe all the way around the circumference of the rock. Other than the “single line” requirement, wishing rocks have no “rules” associated with them.
They can be little or large, any color, any shape.
These stones are formed when pieces of older rocks and other loose material get pressed and cemented together. The lines are formed when heat and pressure change the structure of an existing rock. The texture, mineralogy or chemical composition of a rock changes but it doesn't melt the rock.
Legend has it that if you find a rock with a white line all around it, you have found a Wishing Stone. If you trace your finger around the line while closing your eyes and making a wish, then throw the stone into the sea as far as you can or give it to another person, your wish will come true. If you make a wish on behalf of someone else; then ALL your wishes come true. Among those who believe this legend, the very best Wishing Stone has a single continuous line wrapping around it, a line unbroken and uninterrupted by other lines or streaks.
I don’t remember when or where I found my wishing stones. I’ve had them for many years. But it was more recent years that I rediscovered them and they have been special to people who find them for centuries.
I’m not one to disturb nature (no picking flowers please), but when I come across a wishing stone, I do keep it. Like heart stones, wishing rocks make a lovely gift.
